SC@N 360 and New North Family Support (NNFS) offer information and referral services, a resource library, support groups, and trainings based on the needs and interests identified by our families. Trained parent mentors and Family Navigators offer time-limited support to help identify and coordinate resources and assist families to navigate the specialized and generic services available in Springfield and throughout Massachusetts. Information and Referral
When someone calls needing information or assistance regarding a family member with a disability, the Enhanced Information and Referral Specialist assesses the needs of the individual or family, links them to appropriate resources, and assists in the completion of identified and necessary applications. SC@N 360 and NNFS have current and comprehensive information on a variety of topics of interest to persons with disabilities and their families. Staff are familiar with and maintain access to an extensive database of local, state and federal information resources that is user friendly and responsive to the diverse needs of our families.
The Resource library is available to individuals with disabilities and their families. It contains brochures, manuals, books, and films which can assist an individual or family in learning about a disability or resource. Book Catalog
Our staff assist families from our priority groups, on a time-limited basis (3 to 6 months), in the development and implementation of an individualized Family Action Plan. Planning approaches build on the strengths and capacities of families and incorporate cultural
considerations and beliefs. “Hands-on” assistance actively engages the family in making successful connections with identified programs and services to best address their long-term needs
We sponsor several support groups for persons with disabilities and their families. Currently, SC@N 360 offers
- Spanish Speaking Parent Support Group
- Support Group for Parents with Developmental Disabilities
- Drop in Support Group for All Parents of Children with Special Needs
We provide opportunities for families to meet other families, share information and support each other.
SC@N 360 offers trainings at the Center for professionals and parents and provides information on local and statewide trainings offered within the community. Some of the trainings previously offered include:
- Parent Consulting Training (led by the Federation for Children with Special Needs)
- Parent-to-Parent Mentorship Training
SC@N 360 and NNFS recruit and train a nucleus of diverse caregivers to provide support to families. Since parent mentors have “walked the walk” they can be both empathetic and effective, ensuring families receive the programs and services they need.
